Step By Step Installation of Lync Server 2013 Standard Edition Part 1 – Installation Of Windows Server 2012 and Configuration.
In this post we will see the installation of Windows Server 2012 Datacenter Edition, Installation of Active Directory Domain Services, Installation and Configuration of Certificate Authority. Before you begin, please take a look at Lync Server 2013 lab here.
Installing Windows Server 2012
On the Server Installation Screen, Select Windows Server 2012 Datacenter (Server With a GUI). Click Next.
Choose Custom : Install windows only (advanced).
Select the partition and click next.
Sign in with Administrator account.
When you login with the Administrator account, the Server Manager is launched. We will now install the Active Directory Domain Services role on the computer named AD
thereby promoting it to a Domain Controller. The Domain Name will be PRAJWAL.LOCAL.

Installing Active Directory Domain Services.
Click on Server Manager, Click on Add Roles and Features.
Click on Add roles and features.
Select Role-based or feature-based installation. Click Next.
Choose Select a server from the server pool. Click Next.
Select Active Directory Domain Services and Click Next.
n the features page click Next.
Click Install.
Click on Promote this server to a domain controller.
Choose Add a new forest, root domain name as PRAJWAL.LOCAL. Click Next.
We will keep both Forest Functional level and Domain Functional Level as Windows Server 2012.In this lab we will be installing the DNS server on Domain controller. If you plan to install DNS server on other machine, uncheck the DNS server option. Provide a DSRM password and Click Next.
The NetBIOS name for the domain will be PRAJWAL. click Next.
Click Next.
Make sure that you see the notification “All prerequisite checks are passed successfully”. Click Install.
Once the Active Directory Domain Services are installed, the server will be rebooted. The server is now promoted to Domain Controller.
Lets create a user account named Lyncadmin. This account will have enough privileges to install the Lync Server. LaunchActive Directory Users and Computers, Under users, right click Administrator and click copy.
Provide the details as shown in the below screenshot.
Provide a complex password. Click Next.
Now right click Lyncadmin user account and select Properties. Click Member Of tab and you can see that the lyncadmin account has equal privileges as that of Administrator account. We will not be using Administrator account to install lync server. We will be using Lyncadmin to install the Lync Server and other components on Member server.
Installing Active Directory Certificate Services.
We will now install Active Directory Certificate Services on the domain controller. launch the Server Manager and clickAdd roles and features. Select Active Directory Certificate Services.
Click Certification Authority, Certificate enrollment Policy Web Service, Certificate Enrollment Web Service,Certificate Authority Web Enrollment. click Next.
Do not select anything here, leave it to default and click Next.
click Install.
Now Click on configure Active Directory Certificate Services on the destination server.
Click Next.
On the Select Role Services to Configure, select Certification Authority and Certificate Authority Web Enrollment. Click Next.
Choose Enterprise CA. Click Next.
Select Root CA. Click Next.
Select Create a new private key, Click Next.
leave this page to default and click Next.
Click Next.
Click Next.
Make a note of certificate database locations. Click Next.
The AD CS configuration is complete.
