Installing Sharepoint Server 2010 step by step – Small Farm 2-Tier Architecture

Before we begin we will discuss the deployment architecture and we will discuss what are the basic requirements for SP 2010.
1-Tier architecture : Application Server , Web Server and the Database Server running on single server.
2-Tier architecture : Multi-server deployment, Application Server and Web Server running on same server and separate Database server (Virtual or Physical) .
3-Tier architecture : Multi-server deployment, each server on separate server (Virtual or Physical) .
There are three main account to be created on the domain controller:
During the installation of SQL server you will be asked to configure service accounts. Use your service account (SPSQL) created in the previous step for SQL Server Agent service and for the SQL Database Engine service.
once you finished the installation go to the Management Studio and create a new login for SharePoint setup user account (SPADMIN). Add this user as member of the following SQL Server security roles:
So far everything is ready and steady…. lets kickoff the SharePoint installation…
Run the SharePoint installer from your DVD or mounted ISO.
Click YES to Continue.
If you can see this page you have successfully configured SharePoint. We will discuss some advance configurations in a future post.

SharePoint Deployment Architectures

Configuring Service Accounts:
In this installation we are following the model called “Least Privilege”, which is the idea of assigning only what is needed for the account to function. For further information you can refer the article on technet here.There are three main account to be created on the domain controller:
- Service Account for SQL Server (SPSQL).
- SharePoint setup user account (SPADMIN).
- Server Farm or Database access account (SPFARM).
Configuring SQL Server:
In this section I will cover settings only necessary for SharePoint installation. I will not go through SQL Server installation starting form the scratch here. I’m using SQL server 2008 R2 Enterprise for this 2-tier deployment.During the installation of SQL server you will be asked to configure service accounts. Use your service account (SPSQL) created in the previous step for SQL Server Agent service and for the SQL Database Engine service.

Configuring SharePoint installation Server:
You need to add SharePoint setup user account (SPADMIN) to the local Administrators group in the SharePoint installation server and log into the SharePoint installation server using that account.So far everything is ready and steady…. lets kickoff the SharePoint installation…
SharePoint 2010 Installation:
Assumptions: Your SharePoint installation Server is connected to internet.Run the SharePoint installer from your DVD or mounted ISO.
Configuring SharePoint server:
Click YES to Continue.
